This 84-minute documentary about the famed design duo, Charles and Ray Eames, covers a vast array of their working lives. The film delves into the culture of their studio, their working methods, and how their specific personalities and experiences drove their design processes. There are interviews with former employees of the Eames office, art critics, and other creatives who where influenced by one of the world's most powerful design couples.
This is a great movie for anyone with an interest in Charles and Ray Eames. There is plenty of historic footage of the two masters at work and the film tries to cover as many aspects of their careers as possible - art, film, architecture, object design, furniture, etc. The documentary covers a lot of their lives and design creations; however, there is just too much to cover so some viewers may feel like they only get a brief glimpse into the Eames' - a deeper dive into other material may be necessary.
Eames: The Architect and the Painter is definitely a film that any designer would like to have in their personal collection. We highly recommend this as a gift for architects and other designers.
