This beautifully organic glass vase is inspired by Alvar Aalto's Savoy vase, which was originally designed in the 1930s. It serves as an important example of modern Finnish design - the elegant wave form is one of the best known designs by the famous Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto. The vase looks equally nice filled with flowers or left empty - that means it never has to be put away.
Aalto designed the vase in response to a 1936 design competition by Karhula-Iittala, a Finnish design and glass company. The name Savoy came from the name of a restaurant in Helsinki that had the custom vases on display in their high-end dining room.
We prefer the simple clear vase, but it also comes in a variety of colors such as opaque white and green. The vase is about 6 1/2" tall so it is meant for a shorter and fuller bouquet of beautiful flowers. There are also taller and shorter versions available. Pair a number of vases over time to create a set of timeless pieces.
